KPlayer -media player

WMP for Linux/Ubuntu

An open-source project that is a Linux media player. It plays all types of content, including, but not limited to JPG MP4 and many others. However, you WILL need MPlayer for this application, as that is what streams the online content. So, I have both downloads below. Both are under a GNU licensing agreement, which means that they are absolutely free, as is everything else on this website. Below is the MPlayer description.

MPlayer is a movie and animation player based on the 0.2.0 version of libmpeg2 (mpeg2dec) and the Avifile library. It uses mpeg2dec/libmpeg2 for MPEG decoding. The supported file formats are MPEG 1/2 (MPG, DAT, BIN, VOB) and AVI/ASF/WMF(Mpeg/PCM/AC3/DivX/MS-ADPCM/aLaw audio, MPEG4/DivX/Indeo/CVID/WMF video codecs and many more). MPlayer supports hardware YUV colorspace conversion and scaling via mga_vid/syncfb devices or the X11 Xv extension.

And now that you've got that installed, here is the "KPlayer"!

KPlayer is a KDE multimedia player.

With KPlayer you can easily play a wide variety of video and audio files and streams using a rich and friendly interface compliant with KDE standards.

KPlayer will work out of the box if properly installed, and because it uses MPlayer as the media playing backend, it will play virtually any file or Internet stream. KPlayer simple, clean and easy to use interface makes it an ideal program for playing both music and video. Standard player controls like seeking, volume, contrast, brightness, hue, saturation, zoom, aspect and full screen are just a click away. Status, length and progress are displayed.
