Unfortunately, there have been some glitches with the Ubuntu.com download mirrors. Advice? Try downloading it a few times, and get a server close to you. I'm in VA, and I tried a download from Georgia Tech, and the kernel failed. I tried again at a different location, and it worked fine. Oh, and for crying out loud DO NOT get the beta (8.1). Just get Longterm support for it. Want Ubuntu? Go to the site.
